Portfolio - EDS
EDS required an IT consultant who could aid them
in a Windows 2000 Workstation rollout to one of
its major UK clients, the requirement was to create
and manage a build centre from which the workstation
rollout could be centred.
The Client
EDS is a very large multi national company that
needs no introduction. The client in this case
was BP Exploration Ltd, BP's requirement was to
carry out a hardware refresh of their current
desktop/laptop hardware throughout its UK Upstream
Sites (UKCS) infrastructure to align themselves
with BP's global Active Directory Rollout.
The Problem
The time scales for the rollout were very tight
and the numbers vast, nearly 3000 desktops/laptops
had to be rolled out within the space of 4 months,
included in this rollout was the migration of
personal user data that was held on the users
PC
The Solution
RTFM set-up a warehouse/build area within the
BP complex from which to operate from. BP provided
a base build for the machines to be built from
and a list of UKCS specific settings and application
that had to be installed on each machine.
RTFM designed an automated process for installing
and configuring the UKCS specifics to the base
build. Twenty build engineers were housed within
the warehouse that formed the production line
for the UKCS build, allowing the insallation engineers
to deploy 60 machines a day throught the BP complex.
